The Artist

Aside from achieving global recognition for his exquisite calligraphy skills, Hoang is also a highly-respected traditional calligraphy teacher, pen maker, and an Urushi craftsman.

We collaborated with Vietnam's most famous calligraphy artist: Huy Hoang Dao to create this project. Different from other NFT projects, each NFT in Callicrypto project is handwritten by artist.

As the world of letter arts broadens, one name in particular takes center stage – that of the multi-hyphenate artist Huy Hoang Dao. Based in Hanoi, his impressive portfolio shows three separate, yet thematically overlapping forms of fine art. Heritage Calligraphy, Pen Making, Urushi Craftsmanship.

As though these aren’t enough remarkable achievements for a young creative, it is not surprising that Hoang is a globally-known calligraphy teacher and book author as well.

Hoang’s meteoric rise at an early age earned him international recognition. He launched a new beginning for the calligraphy industry due to his genuine ability to inspire people from various age brackets and geographical locations. Proving that masterful guidance transcends both time and culture as it appeals directly to one’s heart and soul.

As a grandchild of a visual artist who specialized in French, Vietnamese and Chinese calligraphy, Hoang honors his roots by constantly exploring and refining his artistry.

In 2016, US-based organization IAMPETH awarded Hoang a scholarship that paved the way for his attendance in the Annual IAMPETH Convention in Portland, Oregon. The following year, he received the 2017 Dancing Letters Scholarship. This earned him another opportunity to attend an international calligraphy conference named Letterworks in Ogden, Utah. Through a 2018 scholarship award, Hoang went back to the US to participate in the Seattletters event in Bellingham, Washington.

In 2021, Hoang’s Italian Roundhand work graced the Speedball Textbook’s 25th Edition along with other calligraphy experts from around the world. On February 06, 2022, Hoang’s prized calligraphy work and handmade pen holders set the tone for Shine Ocean Ltd’s exhibit during the Vietnam-Japan cultural event in Osaka.

His specialization covers broad-edged and pointed metal nib scripts, covering English Roundhand, Italian Roundhand, Dutch Roundhand, French Roundhand, Spencerian, Ornamental Penmanship, Italic and Roman script.

Hoang’s creative vision, attention to detail and innovative approach to calligraphy art and pen design have been tapped and recognized by various global brands. His design ethos revolves around respect for art, inspiration, user experience, and community impact. All these, because an art legend inspired him – his grandfather.
